Description of Service:
A variation of techniques is used to chemically alter the natural color of the client’s hair. During the consultation, we will discuss whether you are a candidate for permanent hair color. I only color hair that is in a healthy state.
Need To Know:
-Permanent color chemically alters the natural hair color---removing the natural pigment molecules and replacing them with artificial color. Because of this, there is no way to go back to your natural hair color once it has been colored. It is only possible to cover or remove an artificial permanent color and re-color to match the client’s natural color
-Permanent color may alter the texture of the hair and cause the lengthening of curls/coils. It is because of the loss of elasticity in the hair shaft during the color process.
-If your hair is damaged because of permanent color, covering the color will not miraculously make your hair healthy again. It may only mask the appearance of damaged hair
-It is a myth that one-step color, box color, high lift color, or any permanent color process without lightening the hair first will not damage the hair. There are lightening agents in all permanent color meant to take the natural color to a lighter level whether using lightener or not. However, using a lightener could potentially cause more damage than if it were not used.
-To achieve some colors, depending on the client’s natural level, a lightener must be used---especially with blonding
-Darker colors do not require a lightening process, and may be achieved with a demi-permanent (deposit only) color, or a one-step color process
-I use strengthening and bonding agents throughout the color process for the best outcome with the least damage
-Permanent or demi-permanent color over gray hair is an option to cover grays, but may require monthly touch-ups of the new-growth to maintain the look
-Most color appointments take extensive work and planning and could potentially last 6 hours or more even before styling.
-The time coupled with the cost of product makes haircolor an expensive investment. Please be prepared for the cost of maintenance as well.
-Any permanent color done over a previous color for a complete transformation is a color correction and is a different type of appointment with a color removal surcharge
-Adding color with extensions via clip-ins or microlinks may be an option if you are not a candidate for permanent haircolor

Maintenance Recommendations:
-During the consultation, we will discuss the best regimen for your specific type of appointment. Unless you’re allowing the color to grow out, you will need touch-ups over time. The timing is determined by your hair’s rate of growth
-Because color can be drying to the hair, regular strengthening and conditioning treatments are necessary. It would behoove you to stick to a regimen and not neglect color treated hair.
-Do not receive any other chemical services or wear braid styles at least 2 weeks post color
-Sleep with a satin bonnet every night. Pin curl, wrap, or roll your hair to preserve your style.
-Sun exposure is damaging to color treated hair. Keep this in mind when being outside for long periods
-Always cover color-treated hair with a swim cap when entering chlorine-treated water. Remove chlorine build up with a clarifying shampoo and follow up with a deep conditioning
-Trims may be needed more regularly to reduce split ends
You are not a candidate for haircolor if:
-Your hair is damaged or overprocessed
-You have relaxed hair, but want blonde hair (I will not use lightener on relaxed hair)
-Your schedule doesn’t allow for regular salon visits, and you don’t have time to care for your hair at home
-You neglect your hair and don’t properly preserve at night
-You don’t care about the health of your hair
-You rarely wear your own hair
